Portrait of Sofia L. Borges

FSC Associated Fellow 2025-26

Sofia Borges is an artist and researcher working across moving image, archives, and contemporary history. Her practice explores slow violence, temporal afterlives of repression, and the political dimensions of perception through film. Drawing on archival materials, architectural histories, and spatial infrastructures, her work investigates how violence persists beyond events — in memory, in built environments, and in visual regimes. She is currently a doctoral researcher in Contemporary History at the University of Geneva doing a Visiting Fellowship at the Art, Film, and Visual Studies department at Harvard University.

FSC Works

This project centers on researching archival materials and moving images of the colonial Casas do Povo of the Portuguese Regime, with the intention of developing a film that questions the symbolic yet violent mechanisms through which an empire sustains itself across the longue durée.
