Project Description

Sam Witherow

Portrait of Sam Witherow

FSC-Harvard Fellow 2023-24, 2024-25

Sam Witherow, based in Massachusetts, works primarily in film, photography, installation, and performance. Her work focuses on giving voice to and dissecting narratives of grief, anger, and healing. It serves as a search for balance between the importance of storytelling in healing from traumatic events, and the push towards exploitation in a world where painful stories too often become vehicles of entertainment.

She received her BS from Fitchburg State University in Communications Media, Film and Video and her MFA in Film from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Through the support of the FSC, she is currently working on Silver Like Dust, a 16mm exploration of religion, trauma, and material filmmaking.
