Faries Gray is the Sagamore (War Chief) of the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag. At the present time Faries is the only traditional leader for the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag. Faries has spent the last 30 plus years as one of the Tribe’s historians. Faries’ tribal responsibilities include, teaching the tribes history, protecting the tribes traditional territory from development, protecting the traditional culture of the tribe, educating the public about the Tribe’s past, present and future. Faries sits on a number of Boards, commissions and committees. The most recent is Boston’s Commemorative Commission for Boston’s 400th anniversary. Faries also collaborates with art/culture projects with indigenous and non indigenous groups and people. At the present time Faries is collaborating with Access Culture to complete contemporary music with the “old way” of thinking.
