Portrait of Filmmaker Chrystel Oloukoi

FSC-Harvard Fellow 2022-23

Chrystel Oloukoi is a PhD student in African and African American Studies and Critical Media Practice at Harvard University. Their dissertation and media work explores imaginations of the night in Lagos, as well as the afterlives of colonial technologies of temporal discipline. As an FSC fellow, they will be completing a series of experimental shorts entitled “black nocturnal,” a continuously expanding archive of engagements with nighttime and surveillance through diversity of formats – digital, 16mm, (fake) surveillance footage, and smartphone images.

Chrystel Oloukoi is also a freelance film critic and curator, broadly interested in experimental cinema, queer cinema, and Black continental and diasporic cinemas.
