SUMMARY:Screening: To a Land Unknown with Mahdi Fleifel in Person
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Film Study Center and the Sensory Ethnography Lab for a special screening and conversation with Radcliffe-FSC fellow Mahdi Fleifel and his film To a Land Unknown. \nReda and Chatila are two Palestinian cousins hustling their way through the underbelly of Athens pursuing their dream of making it to Germany. But as their hardship grows\, so too does their desperation. When Chatila hatches a reckless all-or-nothing plan\, it strains their bond and pushes the limits of what they will do for freedom. (DCP\, 106 min.\, 2025) \n___________________________________ \nMahdi Fleifel is a Palestinian-Danish filmmaker whose work explores exile\, displacement\, and memory. His latest feature\, To a Land Unknown (2024)\, premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and has won more than 30 international awards. \n\nA graduate of the UK’s National Film and Television School\, Fleifel founded the London-based production company Nakba FilmWorks\, through which he has produced all his films to date. His works include A World Not Ours (2012)\, which received awards at Berlinale\, Yamagata\, and DOC NYC; A Man Returned (2016)\, winner of the Berlinale Silver Bear; A Drowning Man (2017)\, nominated for the Short Film Palme d’Or and a BAFTA; and I Signed the Petition (2018)\, winner of IDFA’s Best Short Documentary award. He is currently a Radcliffe-FSC Fellow at Harvard University. \nimage: still from To a Land Unknown
